“Today is an occasion that will have inspired so many children to read.”

Best-selling author Katie Kirby Visits

Katie Kirby, the best-selling author of the hilarious Lottie Brooks series of books, visited WGS on Monday, 18th September for our first author event of the academic year. Year 6 students at WGS were joined by Christ Church Junior School, Goldthorn Primary, Merridale Primary and Perton Middle School in meeting Katie as she introduced her latest book, Lottie Brooks's Totally Disastrous School-Trip. This is the fourth instalment of Kirby's Lottie Brooks series, which finds Lottie stuck on the school trip from hell as she fights off mean girls and comes to terms with her best friend spending all her time with the new student.

Katie's interactive event saw all students introduced to Lottie, participate in a fun draw-along and engage in a lively Q&A session. At the end of the session, students had the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks.

Thank you to Annie Everall and Authors Aloud UK who helped make this event possible.

Gary Northfield brings the Vikings to Life

Years 3 and 4 met Gary Northfield, the author and illustrator of the acclaimed Julius Zebra book series, on Tuesday, 17th October.

Gary talked about his latest children's book, Leif the Unlucky Viking, encouraged budding cartoonists in the audience to create their own comics to share with friends and family, and brought Norse mythology to life with a superb draw-along.

At the end of the event, Gary signed copies of his book for all students in attendance to purchase.

Many thanks to St Bartholomew's and Bantock Park Primary for joining us.
