Community Yarn Bomb

Leave your mark in history with our Donation Tree

As part of our exciting 150th anniversary celebrations, we are inviting all members of our OW community—students, parents, staff, and alumni—to come together for a creative and colourful project: a WGS community ‘yarn bomb’ and help us with knitting or crocheting bunting and making pom poms to decorate the school grounds.

The pom poms and finished bunting will be proudly displayed during our anniversary events, including the Garden Party and our first-ever Giving Day.

Whether you're a seasoned stitcher or just picking up the needles for the first time, this is a wonderful way to be part of something vibrant and joyful to mark our anniversary year and bring our whole community together.

Here’s how you can get involved:
  • Could you donate any double-knit wool to support us in the yarn bomb creative challenge? We need donations of red, blue, green and yellow wool.  Please hand any wool donations to Main Reception.
  • Make pom poms for us to hang on trees around the site.  Please use the house colours (blue, red, yellow, green) and leave a long tail in order for it to be hung or tied around the site.
  • Create triangles of knitted or crocheted bunting in school house colours (blue, red, yellow, green)

Please drop off your contributions to Main Reception as they are completed, so the ‘knitting club’ can start joining the bunting together.  The very latest date for contributions will be when school returns back in September.  Remember, main reception will be open during the summer school holidays too.

Patterns and inspiration, whether knitting or crocheting, are available via the following links:
