Honouring our past, building our future

2025 is an exciting year at WGS, as we mark the 150th anniversary of WGS being located on Compton Road.  

We are reflecting on our legacy and looking forward to the future.  To mark this significant milestone, we are launching our 150 Appeal to expand our bursary provision.  

Increasing our bursary provision is a key strategic priority for WGS to ensure more talented young people, regardless of their circumstances, can access the transformative education WGS offers.   We hope to involve all our WGS community to help us achieve this goal.

Could you make a regular or one-off donation to the 150 Appeal?

We have set an ambitious fundraising target; only together will we reach that target. A few examples of how smaller regular amounts have huge impact: 

  • If 23 people donated £50 a month, with gift aid, this would fund a full bursary for one student for a year.  A seven-year commitment would support a student throughout their senior school years.
  • With an £18.75 monthly donation by 300 members of our whole WGS community, for just two years, with gift aid, this would raise £162,000; supporting a student from Year 7 to Upper Sixth.

Located just off Main Reception in Big School, this unique installation has been crafted from the wood of the original organ in Big School, brought to life by our talented DT Department. 

We invite everyone in the WGS community, past and present, from OWs to parents, students, former and current staff, to be part of this legacy. By "buying a leaf," you will leave your mark on WGS for generations to come.

Personalise your leaf with your name, class year, family name, or a few words of your choice, all while supporting a cause close to our hearts.

Three leaf colours represent different donation levels, so choose the one that suits you, and be part of our history. 

Bronze leaf - £50 Silver leaf - £75 

Gold leaf - £100 Gold leaf - +£100 

Choose from three leaf amounts, bronze, silver or gold.

Ages 4 - 11

We welcome children into Reception from the age of 4.

Children thrive under our exceptional pastoral care, award-winning leadership and outstanding learning opportunities. Class sizes are deliberately small and classrooms are bright and airy, creating a wonderful learning environment for all.

Ages 11 - 16

Many new students join us in Year 7 and benefit from a full induction ahead of starting. The House system from Year 8 upwards is an extension of our pastoral care and central to school life. Our students consistently perform well in GCSE and A Level examinations and we are extremely proud of them.

Ages 16 - 18

As young adults, our Sixth Formers enjoy studying and socialising in their own Sixth Form Centre, bringing with it greater independence, support from the Sixth Form team and House tutors, the advantages of small teaching groups, and the opportunity to take on leadership and volunteer roles.
