Old Wulfrunians

The experiences you have at School, and the friendships you make will last a lifetime.

Benefit from a global network of alumni offering mentorship and guidance. You too will join our Old Wulfrunians and enjoy friendships for a lifetime. Being a member of our alumni community (known as Old Wulfrunians) ensures the benefits of studying at a top independent school extend way beyond your School years with us.

Our students go on to achieve great things and we have a growing worldwide alumni community of thousands in over 30 countries.

From Sports Festivals, Festive Drinks, Art Exhibitions to Class Reunions. We run a full calendar of events for OWs to enjoy.

I loved hearing from the OWs, I thought they were inspiring and I really enjoyed hearing about their journeys. Hopefully that will be one of my children standing there one day!

Thanks to the generous support of our OWs, in addition to them volunteering to help at school events, current students have benefited from financial gifts in the form of full bursaries, scholarships and academic prizes.

The Development Team

Caroline and Sophie in our Development Office organise several events annually for Old Wulfrunians, these range from class reunions celebrating significant milestones such as 25, 30 and 40 years, festive drinks, a London reunion, the OWA dinner, sports festivals and more recently an alumni art exhibition.

We welcome back over 400 OWs every year and we are extremely proud of our close connection with former students and staff beyond their time at WGS.

The Development team also work closely with our Careers and Sixth Form teams to ensure that former students are welcomed back to engage with our current school community. We are so fortunate to have OWs that come back to share their knowledge and experience of university and career choices, as often as every month.

OW Gifts & Donations

We continue to be amazed and inspired by the generosity of our Old Wulfrunians. Thanks to the generous support of our OWs, in addition to them volunteering to help at school events, current students have benefited from financial gifts in the form of full bursaries, scholarships and academic prizes.

The Michael Wellings Bursary was created by Roger Wellings (OW 1955) in memory of his older and much-loved brother Michael and was first awarded in 2021 to a student entering Year 7. The Old Wulfrunian Sports Scholarship also offers one student a full fee-paying place to study in our Sixth Form and is awarded annually to a student demonstrating strong sporting ability at county, regional or national level and residing in the Wolverhampton area (WV postcode).

The Graham Lewis Maths Scholarship was generously created in 2015 by Rob Zeps (OW 1988). Rob dedicated it to his Mathematics teacher, the late Mr Graham Lewis, who inspired him to pursue Maths for both career and intellectual satisfaction. Rob’s twin brother Professor Nik Zeps (OW 1988) has also funded the Zeps Natural Sciences Scholarship which was first awarded in 2022. These awards support students leaving WGS Sixth Form with a £1,000 grant towards their study at university.

The Keith Powell Digital Art Scholarship will be open to Upper Sixth students in 2024 created in memory of the late David Keith Powell (OW 1948). Keith, who was a keen photographer and cine film maker.

In addition to the above scholarships a number of prizes are awarded at our annual Prizegiving through the support of our OW community.

Interested in supporting the School as a mentor or by making a gift?

We are proud to be one of the oldest schools in the country but forward-looking in our approach.

WGS has been a wonderful place for me, and I really appreciate the sense of community and belonging that I have felt throughout my time here.

Vishwas, Engineering undergraduate at Oxford University

I had great experiences and encouragement at WGS to pursue a career in theatre and performance. Being involved in the School’s drama productions was a great grounding.

Jason, Actor

WGS provided me with out-of-class experiences that have been fundamental starting points to draw from in job interviews.

Maddie, Finance

WGS has done so much for me. Throughout the 7 years I attended, every year was an opportunity to better myself, and indeed broaden my horizons. It allowed me to pursue my love for sport and achieve my dream to become a semi-professional athlete and a teacher.”

Jordan, Semi-Professional Athlete/Teacher

Within the School’s nurturing environment I was provided with countless opportunities and support to pursue the career of my choice.

Callum, Junior Doctor

My time at WGS was genuinely the best period in my life, I have so many happy memories. The Sports department helped me to grow as an individual whilst representing WGS on the sports field.”

Nick, England Hockey Player

My favourite memory of School is being outdoors. I was fortunate to go on two expeditions to Northern Spain and Ecuador – both amazing memorable experiences.

Clare, Executive Coach

I was privileged to have access to the brilliant minds of 3 WGS teachers who imparted their knowledge to me and whose influence on me cannot be overstated.

Simon, Director of Public Prosecutions
