The event saw children engage in a host of interactive challenges designed to help them to achieve their dreams.
Junior & Infant students celebrate World Book Day
Children in Reception to Year 3 began their World Book Day celebrations with a wonderfully interactive visit from Clare Helen Welsh and Fiona Lumbers, in which they learned about Clare and Fiona's new book 'The Space Between'.
In The Space Between, when her granddaughter is missing her old home, Granny teaches her a secret. The flower buds aren't quite open, but they will be soon: they're in the space between, and that time is a gift to treasure. Just like the flowers will soon bloom, in time she will feel at home.
Clare's fun and interactive presentation showed children how big changes are not so scary when we take comfort in the time it takes to embrace them. Whilst Clare beautifully brought her story to life, Fiona taught the children how to draw caterpillars, butterflies, tadpoles and frogs, which link to themes of change in the natural world in their story.
Thanks to Clare and Fiona our children left the event inspired to continue to read for pleasure and with an enhanced sense of wellbeing, strength and bravery to embrace 'the space between'.
Thank you to Clare and Fiona for a wonderful morning; to Andersen Press for partnering with us for our event; and to Lane Green First School for celebrating World Book Day with us.
Students also enjoyed a special visit from Gladiator, author and sports star, Jodie Ounsley
Recognisable as 'Fury’ from the hugely popular BBC show Gladiators, Jodie is the much-loved sports star and pioneering deaf athlete, who represented England in rugby sevens.
Jodie was here for an author event in Big School but after huge demand, she popped by to meet our students in Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3.
Jodie has written an empowering, must-have guide-for-life called Keep Smashing It: Be Strong, Be Brave, Be Confident! In the book, Jodie shows young people that they can do anything they put their mind to – they just have to believe they can. She teaches how our differences are our superpowers, the importance of being resilient and how to pick ourselves up and try again.
