Future Football Stars Get a Taste of the Big Time at Wembley

Twenty Year 9 students from Wolverhampton Grammar School have been chosen to represent the school as Ball Kids at several major EFL Cup events taking place at Wembley Stadium over the coming months.

This exciting opportunity comes courtesy of former professional footballer and Chair of the English Schools’ Football Association Council, Marvin Robinson (OW 1998), and will see our students involved in high-profile matches, including the Carabao Cup Final and the EFL Trophy Final.

Students were selected for this prestigious opportunity based on their commitment to football at WGS and knowledge of the game, to ensure they can deliver the highest standard of service during the matches which shall be broadcast worldwide. They will be responsible for retrieving and returning balls during matches, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of play. The group shall be trained by the EFL to deliver the new multiple ball system, which involves placing eight balls at strategic points around the pitch to minimise delays and keep the action moving.

Each student will have the opportunity to participate in at least two matches, with a team of 12 attending each event. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students to gain valuable experience in a professional sporting environment at none other than the home of English football.

We wish our students the very best of luck in their roles as Ball Kids and look forward to seeing them in action. You can catch them on your TV screens at:

Carabao Cup Final – Sunday 25 February 2024
EFL Trophy Final – Sunday 7 April 2024
Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final – Saturday 18 May 2024
Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final – Sunday 19 May 2024
Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final – Sunday 26 May 2024
