Wolverhampton Young Authors' Prize 2024

Calling all budding Young Authors - the Wolverhampton Young Authors' Prize is back for its fourth year!

We are challenging children in Years 3 - 11 from across Wolverhampton to write their own original, short story that is no more than 400 words based around this year’s theme: Heroes. Think of real-life heroes like Malala Yousafzai or fictional heroes like Harry Potter; what makes a character truly heroic? Click here for some inspiration.

Finalists will be invited to attend a Grand Final at Wolverhampton Grammar School on Thursday 8th February 2024, where winners will be announced in the following year group categories: Years 3 - 5; Years 6 - 8; Years 9 - 11. The three winners will each receive a personalised trophy and have their story read aloud by award winning author, Paul Dowswell.

Last year over 500 children entered the competition and 108 Finalists from seven local schools were invited to the Grand Final at WGS which was attended by award-winning children’s author Cliff McNish.

To enter this year’s competition, submit your story in the form below by Tuesday 30th January

We can’t wait to read your entries as you bring your heroes to life! Good luck!
