WGS Duke of Edinburgh Provision Celebrates Triple Triumph

A huge congratulations to our Duke of Edinburgh team who have been celebrating a number of milestones over the past few months.

Between 1st April 2022 and 31st March 2023, over 100 students from Wolverhampton Grammar School spent a collective 2,015 hours undertaking physical activity towards the physical section of their Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. From hours spent in the swimming pool to the hockey pitch, we are so proud of the dedication and effort of our students.

This award comes shortly after we celebrated our former Duke of Edinburgh Lead, Mr Mason, for his remarkable 10 years of service to the Duke of Edinburgh award. Mr Mason became the leader of DofE at WGS in 2014 when the school became a Directly Licensed Centre, and he has since overseen the completion of hundreds of awards.

Mr Martin, who took the reins from Mr Mason in September 2022 has also this month been recognised for a decade of dedication to the award. Before he came to WGS, Mr Martin led DofE at Beacon Hill Academy.

Duke of Edinburgh is an extremely popular and successful extra-curricular opportunity offered at WGS, with over 100 students signing up for the award each year. We are incredibly grateful for the commitment and leadership of Mr Mason, Mr Martin, and all our staff who have been involved in the running of the DofE Award, and we thank them for their invaluable contributions to enriching our school community. We are also very grateful to Navigation Education who we have worked in partnership with for our expeditions since 2012.
