Wolverhampton Young Authors’ Prize

The Wolverhampton Young Authors’ Prize is back!

Launched last year, this annual creative writing competition challenges young people across the region, aged 8 to 16, to write an original short story in no more than 400 words around a particular theme. Last year saw over 100 stories submitted themed around The Escape, with winning entries coming from students at Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School, Perton Middle School, and Merridale Primary School.

This year’s competition was launched by bestselling children’s author Ben Davis and is centred around the theme of The Journey. Winners will be announced in the following age categories: ages 8 – 10; ages 11 – 13; ages 14 – 16. The winners will each receive a custom designed trophy and have their story read aloud by a well-known author during the live final, which is due to take place in February 2022.

Would your school and students like to get involved? Entries can be sent to Mrs Rowley and Mr McAllister by email: 400Words@wgs-sch.net
