Students from the national award winning School – judged “Excellent” in all areas by school Inspectors are celebrating another year of top GCSE results.
The School, ranked highest in the City last year for GCSE results and Top 25 in the national Independent School GCSE league tables celebrates another year of student success.
Congratulations to all our Year 11 students who have performed exceptionally well. The numbers in brief:
- 83 Students studied towards an impressive 788 GCSE and iGCSE awards
- 411 Grade 9, 8 or 7 awards (equivalent to A* and A)
- 136 coveted Grade 9s awarded
- 89% achieved equivalent A* – C grades
Kathy Crewe-Read, Head of Wolverhampton Grammar School said “Congratulations to all our Year 11 students collecting results this week. For those students who were awarded nothing but exceptional grade 9s, their success is truly outstanding when you appreciate that last year, this made up just over 4% of all grades issued nationally.
Grade 9 is not the same as the old A* grade – it’s a new grade designed to recognise the very best performance. Nationally, it is predicted that there will be even fewer grade 9s awarded this year, illustrating just how well those Wolverhampton Grammar School students have done”.
All subjects are now graded using a numerical format as opposed to letters.
- 9, 8 or 7 is now equivalent to an A* or A grade
- 6, 5 or 4 is equivalent to a B or C grade
- 3, 2 or 1 is equivalent to a D, E or F grade
- U mark is judged as ungraded
Students from other schools receiving GCSE results this week may be interested in joining Wolverhampton Grammar School’s Sixth Form. Last week, Sixth Form students walked away with stellar A Level results with over a third of all students awarded straight A* or A awards. 88% of all students achieved A*- C awards.
Wolverhampton Grammar School is one of the leading co-educational independent schools in the region and the top independent school in Wolverhampton with an extensive choice of Sixth Form subjects including A Levels and Cambridge Technical awards.
