Students at Young Voice's Concert

Junior School students join the largest children’s choir in the world

On Tuesday 3rd May, Head of Music, Mrs Cuthbert, and Mrs Nicholls took a group of our Junior School students to join 5000 other children from 108 schools at the 2022 Young Voices Concert at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. The day began with a long and exciting afternoon of rehearsals, followed by the big concert in the evening.

Our students were inspired by the professional artists, especially the Urban Striders dance group and the Beatbox Collective. They had a wonderful time singing and dancing the night away to hits including ‘Mambo Italiano’, and enjoyed making friends with students from other schools.

Year 6 student, Beatrice, shared with us: “It’s a great experience that all children should have! My favourite song was Sing it from The Heart which was specially composed for us to sing.”

The concert was also enjoyed by parents who joined the audience in the evening; Year 5 student, Mya, said: “I liked how the crowd went wild when we were performing”.

The first Young Voices concert was held in 1992 at Cardiff Arms Park, and involved over 10,000 male voices. 30 years later, the event remains strong and continues to break world records for attendance and is renowned for being the largest children’s choir in the world.

Mrs Cuthbert hopes to return with another enthusiastic group of young singers next year!
