The infamous 2018 “Beast from the East” storms forced a reluctant decision to cancel in March 2018 – making the 2019 Annual Dinner even more special. Over one hundred and fifty current and former pupils, staff, and directors filled Big School. Mr Stephen Billing (OW 1984) honoured the gathering with his presence as guest speaker with an engaging talk on his fond memories of his time at School and career in cardiothoracic surgery.
The latest contingent of WGS leavers, Class of 2018, were out in force with a grand total of eleven including last year’s Head Girl and Head Boy, Lisa Obi and James Birch. Lucia Hoddell and John Steel represented the current students at the dinner, sitting at the top table with the guests of honour. Thirteen members of the Class of 1994 were welcomed to their twenty-fifth anniversary reunion with Mr Anderson giving a tour of school and re-introducing them to some of their former teachers, including Mr Hills and Dr O’Brien.
There were changes within the OWA, with Dr Husselbee’s tenure as OWA President coming to a close and the donning of the presidential chains by WGS’ very own John “J.J.” Johnson.
