Ellie treads the boards for arts charity

Ellie Denton (OW 2019) is in her second year at Newcastle University, studying Fine Art. She is also a member of the Theatre Society.

After seeing the impact of Covid-19 on the arts community they love, Ellie and her fellow actors felt compelled to help. So, armed with little more than ambition, dedication and drive, they rehearsed, performed and subsequently filmed a production of Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’.

The play’s backdrop of 2,000 empty seats at the Sunderland Empire serves to highlight the crippling consequences of the pandemic on arts venues across the country.

Despite many challenges due to coronavirus restrictions, the film is finally ready. Watch it on the digital stage from 2nd July to 16th July at https://www.stream.theatre/season/151

Tickets costs £15. All proceeds will go to Acting for Others, the arts charity providing emotional and financial support, welfare and benefit advice to theatre workers in need.
