Congratulations to the 2022 Coast 2 Coast Team!

On Friday 27th May, a group of nine Year 10 students set off to the start-line of the annual Coast 2 Coast Challenge from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay. This year’s chosen charity was Teenage Cancer Trust.

Teenage Cancer Trust representative, Grace Higgins came along to wish the team good luck before they set off. She was accompanied by Morgan, a family friend of the team who has been receiving treatment for Leukaemia over the last two years with the support of Teenage Cancer Trust and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Morgan delivered a heart-warming speech to the team and reassured them that they were doing it for a fantastic cause.

The team set off from St Bees at 7am on Saturday 28th, and after a gruelling 170-mile journey across the country, facing some of the steepest hills in England, they arrived in Robin Hood’s Bay on the Sunday morning, 25 hours and 52 minutes later!

Congratulations to Mason, Luke, Kyla, Caleb, Sachi, Nacardo, George, Elliot and Jasraaj; what an incredible achievement, we could not be more proud of you!

During the course of the challenge, the team more than doubled their fundraising target for Teenage Cancer Trust, and the total now currently stands at £7,393.

A special thank you to the teachers: Mr French, Mrs Harris, Mrs Dyer, Mr Johnson, Mr Crust, Mr Jones, Mr Griffiths, Dr Bradley and Mr Frazer, and to the parents who have supported the team from week one of training, all the way to the finish line.

During the event, Teenage Cancer Trust- North West & Cumbria shared on Facebook:

The students have been training for 16 weeks and we cannot thank them enough for their commitment and dedication. The students and their parents, as well as the brilliant staff at Wolverhampton Grammar School, have been brilliant throughout so if you happen to be in the area, make sure you give them cheer.”
