Coast 2 Coast 2021 Challenge

A team of 12 Year 10 students are in training to complete the School’s annual Coast 2 Coast challenge in aid of The Haven Wolverhampton.

For over 20 years, Wolverhampton Grammar School students have run the 187 mile route from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay as a tag team with a target of completing the challenge in under 24 hours. This year’s Coast 2 Coast challenge will start at 7am on Saturday 29th May from St Bees and the team will aim to arrive in Robin Hood’s Bay by 7am on Sunday 30th May 2021.

This year’s team is made up of the following Year 10 students: Harry, Jaiya, Bella, Jack, Leah, Tom, Freddie, Sahara, Dhiren, Isabelle, Max and Ava.

The students undertake 16 weeks of extreme training in preparation for their challenge. The team are coached and supported by School staff including Mr French, Mrs Harris, Dr Bradley, Mrs Dyer, Mr Johnson, Mr Crust and Miss Bradley during their training and the challenge itself. Parents and siblings also support the team along the route.

Alex Frazer, Head of Wolverhampton Grammar School commented

“Our students show incredible determination throughout their training schedule and the event itself is a great celebration of their individual and collective achievements. We are blown away by the generosity of our School community as our students raise a phenomenal amount of money for well-deserving charities each year.”

For 2021, the students have chosen to fundraise for The Haven which provides practical and emotional services support to women and dependent children who are vulnerable to domestic violence, homelessness and abuse. The Haven Wolverhampton was set up in 1973 and is one of the largest refuge providers in the UK.
