It is with great sadness that we announce former Head, John Anthony Stocks has passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Tuesday 15th January.
Tony (or Jasper, as he was also affectionately known) was a Historian and Headmaster of Wolverhampton Grammar School between 1973 and 1978.
“Tony Stocks had a huge impact on the School that we know today. He presided over the School during a time when huge education reforms were made including the abolishment of Direct Grants which resulted in schools like ours becoming fully independent.
He also made a great contribution to the life of students, in his various roles as Master, Scout Master, and finally Headmaster. He will be remembered by many.” commented Kathy Crewe-Read, Head of Wolverhampton Grammar School.
A portrait of Tony Stocks, along with other Heads of Wolverhampton Grammar School can still be seen in the School’s Archive Room at it’s Compton Road campus.
His funeral will take place on Thursday 7th February at St. John’s Methodist Church, Gloucester at 1pm and Crematorium at 2.30pm. Refreshments will be available at St. John’s Church Hall following the committal.
Former students are invited to share their memories of Mr Stocks which will be included in the 2019 edition of The Wulfunian, the School’s annual alumni magazine. Simply contact the Development Office at School email email@example.com
