Ski Trip 2015

by Andy Carey

This year, 39 very excited students from Year 7 to Lower Sixth travelled Flachau in Austria for a week of skiing. After the long trip, all of the students settled into their accommodation and were issued with their skis, passes, helmets and boots ready for the week ahead. The first evening was left for them to recuperate and explore the resort.

On the second day, everyone headed out onto the slopes, which were in great condition, providing some superb skiing for all. Due to the heavy snow that had fallen, the skiers had an excellent opportunity to show off their skills. Within two days the two beginners’ groups were at the top of the mountain and skiing with confidence. The snow really couldn’t have been better and the quality of instruction offered by the local ski school was fantastic. Add to that the cloudless skies throughout the week and you can tell that we all had an amazing time.  This was also shown by the fact that there were no injuries at all on the trip, not even a trip or graze!

Congratulations to Alex Dmitrewski (L6) who set the fastest time on race day followed by Ally Carey (L6) and Paul Griffiths (L6) in second and third places. The nightlife in the resort was also really enjoyable for everyone, with the help of the traditional quiz evening, ice hockey, bowling and swimming. This allowed each year group to integrate and new friendships to be formed. It is safe to say that everyone had a fantastic time and felt sad when it was time to return to school. A big thank you must go to my colleagues on the trip; Mr Johnson, Mrs Harris, Mr Davies and Mrs Causebrook (not forgetting Mrs Davies and Mr Causebrook too). Most of all thank you to the students on the trip who were a credit to WGS.
