Sport has a long tradition at Wolverhampton Grammar School and our students compete at city, regional and national level.

Our 23 acre campus includes rugby, cricket, hockey and football pitches, netball courts, an all-weather astro turf and athletics track as well as a fully equipped sports centre with multi-gym and indoor courts for badminton, squash and nets.

Wolverhampton Grammar School also has Fives Courts (fives is a traditional independent school sport) as well as a purpose built climbing wall and sports pavilion offering panoramic views of our large outdoor sports fields.

As a coeducational school, we offer more than 20 sports based activities through curricular and extra–curricular provision. Sports participation across our Junior, Senior and Sixth Form is high (particularly with girls) and our Sports Department staff includes coaches and tutors who have national and international competition experience and expertise. Many of our staff have competed at a top level and are able to offer dedicated coaching to students looking to focus on a particular sport or discipline.

Our Sports Department believe in the ethos of sport for all. All students are given the opportunity to achieve his/her potential regardless of ability or previous experience. Sport is offered at all ages right through to Sixth Form where Physical Education remains a popular A Level choice.

Extra-curricular sport thrives at our school with each year group offered the opportunity for competitive sports. All age groups regularly compete against local schools as well as an extensive network of independent schools throughout the region and country.

This busy programme of competition has led to a successful track record for school sport over the years, a tradition which continues to the present day. A number of teams and individuals having experienced success at local, county, regional and national level.

Wolverhampton Grammar School’s purpose built Sports Centre is an impressive building that incorporates a large indoor playing area suitable for a wide array of activities. In addition, four squash courts, a multi-gym and a bespoke climbing wall provide a unique experience for our students wishing to look beyond the more traditional sports.

As a long established independent school, Wolverhampton Grammar School also offers ‘Fives’: a traditional independent school sport that combines the skills of squash and handball. Fives has its roots in the public school system and in recent years has experienced something of a resurgence amongst current and former students.

Our 23 acre campus provides the perfect location for cross-country and includes extensive sports fields for cricket, football, rugby and rounders. Sports men and women also take full advantage of a purpose built, floodlit astro-turf for football, hockey and tennis as well as netball courts.

Activities included in the curriculum range from the traditional games activities of cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders and rugby through to athletics, gymnastics, swimming and racket sports.
