Don’t miss out on a unique opportunity to own an original piece of art and a small slice of Wolverhampton Grammar School history.

Join us in the School’s Viner Gallery on Saturday 25th November for a one off auction including work by Charles Viner*, the School’s Head of Art (1942 to 1968), local artists and staff. All proceeds will be donated towards our School Bursary fund which provides a Wolverhampton Grammar School education to Wolverhampton families of bright and gifted children who need financial support.

This event will include the opportunity to purchase fixed price items and historical photographic prints of the School, as well as the chance to bid for items listed in the Auction Catalogue.

Original artwork has been kindly donated by the estate of Charles Viner and local, commercial artists including Nigel Dodds, Jenny Gunning, Sarah Stokes, Michael Warren, Adam Birch, Giorgio Uccellini  and Adrian Clamp alongside Wolverhampton Grammar School teachers James Millichamp, Emma Bowater and Diana Ward. A pop-up shop of historical School prints and original pieces with a fixed price will also be available to purchase during the Open Viewings and at the Auction.

This fundraising event will also help us celebrate ten years of our fantastic Viner Gallery (named in Charles’ honour).

*Charles Viner was born in Minchinhampton in Gloucestershire in 1907, he went to Marling Grammar School in nearby Stroud, and later studied art in Gloucester before going to university at Oxford and Birmingham. His first teaching position was at King Edward VII School in Lytham St Annes in 1934. He became Head of Art at WGS in 1942, retiring in 1968 to move to south Devon. In his retirement he again took up painting, mainly local sea and landscapes.

After a gap of ten years Charles’ art will once again grace the walls of the gallery named in his honour. Kindly donated by John Viner, Charles’ son, in aid of our Bursary Fundraising campaign, Charles’ work will be available for purchase at a special auction at the end of the exhibition on Saturday 25th November 2017.  In support of our fundraising visiting artists and teachers have also donated work and there will be smaller paintings and prints to purchase in our pop-up shop throughout the exhibition viewings.
