As Head of Head of Economics and Business Studies, Tom is responsible for ensuring the department delivers the requirements of the GCSE and AS/A Level curriculum as well as ensuring Business and Economics is integrated throughout school life.

The Department works hard to ensure all classes are small with group discussion and peer mentoring actively encouraged. The Department has its own library and resources as well as access to expert and staff with commercial as well as teaching expertise.

Tom works closely with Pav Mahey who also teaches Business and ICT at Wolverhampton Grammar School.

Whole school debates around Business and Economics are available for all school to participate in.

Economics and Business Studies is also available as an extra-curricular activity in school for those students who are interested in the subjects. For example, the school offers the Certificate in Financial Studies for Lower Sixth and Diploma levels are available for Upper Sixth students.

The department also coordinates the IFS Student Investor Challenge and Dragon’s Den Weekly Club.

Tom has particular research interests around Theory of the Firm; International Trade and Marketing.

As well as leading a busy and successful department, Tom is committed to supporting a number of other activities on behalf of the school including international sport and academic trips to South Africa, Namibia, Indonesia, Borneo, Australia, Belgium, France and Germany.   

“I take enormous pride in seeing students learn about business and economics – particularly when they appreciate just how the subjects impact everyday life. Many of our students go on to study these challenging subjects at University.”

Outside of school, Tom enjoys learning Mandarin; Jazz & Blues piano; fine dining and gardening. His love of sport also ensures he follows international Rugby and Athletics.
