As Head of Department, Chris leads the work of seven staff who collectively teach maths throughout the school.

The aim of the department is to provide all students with a good grounding in mathematical ideas up to GCSE level, and then for those students who choose to, more advanced knowledge to A Level standard in Mathematics or Further Mathematics.

The department makes use of digital resources including Autograph (graphing software) and MyMaths (online homework resource).

Students go on to study at prestigious universities including Cambridge and Oxford and excel in a range of careers. Alumni include Andrew Wade (academic, University of Durham), Julian Griffin (academic,  King’s College, Cambridge) and Dherminder Kainth (Head of Quantitative Risk Control, RBS).

As Head of Department, Chris oversees the department’s contribution to a range of activities including the extra-curricular Maths Club.

The department also takes part in Junior, Intermediate and Senior Maths Challenges and Team Competitions ensuring that maths is an integral part of school life at Wolverhampton Grammar School.

Chris has taught at Wolverhampton Grammar School since 1987 and has been Head of Department since 1990. He previously taught at Bournemouth School.
